What Is an Ego? How to Get Rid of Ego?

Ego is a subject that every human being encounters but very few understand in its depth. Let us explore: What is an ego? What problems does it cause in your life? And most importantly, how can you get rid of it?

The Nature of Ego

Ego is a separate identity created by your mind. It is not your true self, but rather a fantasy character built upon assumptions, opinions, and conditioning. Your mind convinces you that you are someone—a specific identity with particular traits, roles, and behavior patterns.

When you start believing this character to be true, you begin to live and act according to it. Externally, your life becomes a reflection of this false identity.

This process is not just about what your own mind creates. From the moment of childhood until today, you collect information about yourself from the external world. Parents, relatives, teachers, friends, and colleagues—all carry opinions about you. Over time, you start believing those opinions to be your identity.

Ego, therefore, is like the role of a character in a movie. Just as an actor plays different roles—father, mother, sister, friend, servant, master—your mind plays out roles that it has created for you. You identify with these roles so deeply that you forget your true essence.

How Ego Limits You

When you create an ego, you do not only define its roles—you also define how it should behave in different situations. Responses to life stop being natural; they become reactions, because the ego is always afraid of being hurt.

The bigger the ego, the more easily it gets hurt. If someone insults you, the one that feels hurt is not your true self—it is the character you are holding onto. For example, if someone calls you a joker, you do not become a joker. The insult touches only the false character, not the reality of who you are.

At the center of your being, you are not an ego. You are Consciousness—ever-present, infinite, unchanging. Ego makes you image-conscious and drags you into the illusion of personality and roles.

Is it your fault that you became an ego? No. Because you come into this life carrying a mind shaped by past births. That mind already carries impressions and beliefs, which make you assume yourself to be limited. If you were born in a poor region, you may feel limited by that environment. If you were born near the equator, you may feel limited compared to people in developed nations.

These are only beliefs. Existence never gave you such limitations. Ego itself creates them. And over a long period, this is harmful, because it prevents you from knowing your full potential.

Ego as the Obstacle

When you assume yourself to be an ego, your life becomes narrow. Your expression becomes partial. You cannot know the fullness of your human potential.

People with bigger egos suffer the most. They cannot operate in harmony with others. They are constantly in arguments, always comparing themselves—either feeling inferior or superior. Ego is like a hidden demon, silently killing you drop by drop without your permission.

Ego has many layers. In some lifetimes you may have been a king, in others a beggar. All these imprints remain in your subtle body in the form of mind impressions. These imprints show up as emotional energies: anger, suppression, fear, doubt, jealousy, blame, shame, sadness, grief. All these emotions are weapons for the ego. They keep you trapped in endless arguments and inner conflict.

How to Identify and Drop the Ego

The first step is awareness. Identify the areas where you feel limited because of the image you hold about yourself. Ask yourself: Where am I stuck because of how I want to be seen? Where have I created unnecessary roles?

When you begin to see these masks clearly, they start to dissolve.

I can help you in this journey by reading your Inner GPS. This reveals which roles you need to shed, and which areas of your life require attention. The goal is to help you return to your individuality—not to live as a false personality, but as the true individual rooted in Consciousness.

Ego is the biggest obstacle not only to spiritual development, but also to human growth at the most basic level. For example, if you are in a leadership role in a big organization, your ego can trap you inside that role. Instead of growing, you feel stuck, unable to learn new things or evolve. Ego becomes your prison.

Ego Clashes and Surrender

Ego clashes happen because everyone believes they are someone. No one wants to surrender, because surrender feels like defeat to the ego.

But to a true Master, your ego has no meaning. Dropping the ego is the prerequisite for knowing yourself. Without this surrender, you cannot discover your original nature.

Deeper cleansing of the ego is possible only through inner energy work. This happens at subtle levels. If you are going through Kundalini Awakening, ego is the greatest hurdle. It blocks the natural journey of Kundalini energy.

Whether in your profession or personal life, you have built an ego that limits you. By working directly with your energy system, these layers can be removed.

Living Beyond Ego

When ego is shed, life becomes vibrant. You no longer live from a false identity, but from your true center of Consciousness. Your responses flow naturally. You live in harmony with yourself and with those around you.

The ego must be unlearned, because it is nothing more than accumulated information. Only when you let go of this unnecessary baggage can you experience freedom, growth, and the highest happiness.

The journey beyond ego is not about becoming someone better. It is about realizing you were never someone in the first place. You are Consciousness itself—limitless, infinite, and free.

Closing

Ego is the mask, the false identity, the fictitious “I.” It limits your life, blocks your growth, and separates you from your true nature. The way beyond it is awareness, surrender, and inner energy work.

Drop the mask. Drop the false roles. Live from your inner truth. And discover yourself—not as an ego, but as the eternal Consciousness that you are.

Stay tuned.
