Recognizing the Uniqueness of Every Student
How can you become a truly great teacher? You can become one by valuing the importance of the unique characteristics of each child. Every student of yours is a unique individual. When you customize your teaching to a student specifically—to him or her—you naturally create a space of respect and gratitude in the heart of that student towards you.
A teacher is the only person in a child’s life whom he or she trusts unconditionally. When a child first gets enrolled in school, he or she is fully available to learn from you—not only the teachings of the syllabus, but the wisdom of this world delivered through the system of education. If you can know the specific need of each student, you will naturally focus on what is required for that individual in a subject, and more importantly, in life itself.
Tapping the Inner GPS of Students
You must learn to value each student for their genius qualities. By learning to tap into the inner GPS of your students, you can know exactly what their needs are and how you can provide the best teachings based on those specific needs. Whether it is a subject-based teaching or training in skills, you can always become someone unforgettable in their lives when you address them directly as unique beings rather than a collective classroom.
Books provide general guidelines and knowledge, and they are accessible to all students. But what students truly need is a teacher who can customize those teachings for them, tailoring to their intellect and cognitive capacities. If you are able to provide a student with exactly what they need at the right time, they will look forward to receiving your guidance in other aspects of life as well.
Teaching by Example: Living with Freedom
You can become an exemplary teacher by demonstrating the freedom with which you live your own life. When you focus on yourself—understanding your own specific needs by knowing the functioning of your inner GPS—students will be attracted to you naturally. They will be drawn to learn not only academic lessons but also the deeper art of tapping into their inner GPS. If you can guide them to use their inner GPS as a compass in life, they will remain connected to you for a long time, cherishing your presence and mentorship.
Why Teachers Become Outdated
When I meet my clients who are teachers but feel they are not doing well in their profession, they often share their concerns about not being able to cope with the changing attitudes of children as they grow up. The truth is that the growth of children is faster than the personal growth of teachers. Teachers often keep repeating the same syllabus year after year. Gradually, they become outdated in the eyes of students who are expanding their awareness rapidly.
This decline in value creates sadness and anxiety for teachers. Some even fall into depression because the dopamine once released by empowering students stops flowing. Earlier, they would feel alive by adding value to their students’ lives. Now, with diminishing impact, their energy declines.
When you fail to radiate higher energies and empower your students, you cannot progress in your profession. You become limited to the role of a subject teacher only. Remember: you are not just a subject-carrier—you are a human being with a mind. And the mind gets bored by repeating the same material again and again for years. This repetitive cycle makes teachers old before their time. Their possibilities for expansion shrink when they fail to evolve in sync with the pace and challenges of their students.
Teaching Across Ages and Skills
Whether you teach a little child, a teenager, young adults, or anyone learning a skill—whether you are a sports coach, an art instructor, or a professional trainer in any domain—if you know the specific need of each student by tapping into their inner GPS, you will provide the highest value. This is the path to gradually becoming the most valuable teacher in the world.
The journey of being a teacher is the first step to becoming a Master, a Mentor, a Guru, or a Coach. Starting as a good teacher opens the possibility for you to expand into the role of a great mentor later in life.
Parents as Teachers
If you are a parent teaching your own children, understand this: once you step into the role of a teacher, your responsibility changes. As a teacher, the expectation from you is much higher than as a parent. Do not take yourself for granted, and do not take the lives of your children or students for granted.
If you cannot teach a particular subject or skill well, have the courage to be honest. Speak directly to your children or students and tell them that this area is not up to your standards or knowledge. Set them free to seek guidance from other teachers or sources who can impart those teachings more effectively. This honesty will relieve you of the unnecessary stress caused by the small ego of wanting to appear as “the teacher” for everything.
When you do not allow students to access other sources of wisdom because of your pride, you block their growth. By being humble and transparent, you actually strengthen your bond with them. They will respect your honesty.
Lifelong Learning: The Teacher as Student
You can only become a great teacher if you keep investing in yourself. Sharpen your axe. Learn new skills. Update yourself with fresh wisdom. Most importantly, implement that wisdom in your own life until it becomes your art. Only then can you teach it to others authentically. Knowledge becomes transformative only when it is lived by you first.
Many teachers remain stuck because they stop learning after acquiring their degree. They keep repeating what they studied years ago, and soon their teaching feels lifeless. To stay alive as a teacher, you must live as a lifelong student.
Expanding Beyond the Classroom
If you want to know how to become a truly great teacher, begin by sharing the areas where you are failing. Where do you feel outdated? Where do you feel blocked? Once you identify these, you can be guided to evolve, to become the best teacher in the world. By learning to tap into your own inner GPS, you can then guide your students to tap into theirs. This creates customized education—living teachings tailored for real growth. Such teachings will make students remember you not only as a teacher but as the one who brought light into their lives.
To reach this level, you must shift your energy from the limited role of a mere academic instructor to an expanded self—radiating unconditional love and the spirit of giving towards your students. When you teach from this state, you create a permanent space in their hearts.
The Sacred Gift of Teaching
Being a teacher is not just a profession—it is a sacred gift. Teachers hold the power to transform lives. The deepest joy available to you is the joy of seeing a life transformed because of your presence.
Take this role seriously. It is not a small thing to be entrusted with the minds and souls of the next generation. Dedicate yourself to becoming a better teacher every day. Learn. Grow. Expand. Focus on your evolution so that you can add genuine value to the lives of your students. This is the art of becoming the world’s greatest teacher.
